Orlando Stadium

This stadium is designed for 40 000 seats and construction was completed in 2009 before the Soccer World Cup tournament in South Africa.  The stadium was not planned for a world cup venue but was a back-up stadium that complies to all FIFA standards. It was however used for rugby matches when the other stadiums were used for the Soccer World Cup matches.

The roof of the stadium was inverted with the structure on the outside. This prevents birds from nesting underneath the roof and making a mess on the seats below.

The shape of the external light masts and directional signage were derived from the roof structure forming a cohesive design linking the external elements with the building itself. The press benches were constructed from decking material, ensuring that they are weather resistant.
