Cradle Ridge House 58

The very narrow site is located against a hillside with beautiful views over the surrounding areas. The client wanted to optimize the use of the sloping site and the expansive views, but we had to stay within the estate rules which only makes allowance for 2 storeys, with the first storey being only a percentage of the area of the ground storey.

Working within these parameters, we created multiple levels on the ground floor as well as on the first floor. The ground floor consists of the kitchen, interior and exterior entertainment areas as well as a guest bedroom. The main bedroom suite is situated above the garage and is lower than the rest of the first floor, which consists of 2 bedrooms, a pajama lounge and a patio on the western side of the bedrooms which also provides cover from the western sun.

Timber slats were used as decorative elements to soften the harsh grey and white colour palette of the house, as well as shading devices all around the house.

The steep hillside at the back of the site are shaped by a boma with fire pit and grassed terraces.
